Tuscany has become the symbol of everything good in Italy and there lies a magic glow over the word. Many people dream of visiting Tuscany and those who have already done so, have a return planned for sure!
Tuscany provides more possibilities: everybody can find their favourite goodies: be on a special vineyard, a scented trail or a sun-drenched ‘piazza’.
But there are still parts of this rich Italian region that have to be discovered. Beyond the super-celebrities Florence, Chianti, Pisa and Siena there is for example the Tuscan archipelago with the islands of Gorgona, Capraia, Elba, Pianosa, Montecristo, Giglio and Giannutri. Here the water is turquoise in a way we rarely experience in Europe, and opportunities for diving and snorkeling are endless.
In this overview, we also find the mountains. Apuan Alps frame the central coast of Versilia with its rugged beauty. Further inland Monte Amiata rises with its 1738 m, being Tuscany's highest mountain. This extinct volcano and the serpentine road offer a beautiful natural scenario with the sweeping views of Tuscany as well as northern Lazio and Umbria.
Casentino is another corner of Tuscany's hinterland, where the tourists have not been found yet. Like a natural amphitheater, surrounded by mountains and intersected by the Arno river, lies Casentino whose wealth consists in one of Italy's most extensive forest.
On postcards and glossy pages of magazines, we have been fed with images of Tuscany's wine landscape, but in fact the coast, which is one of Italy's cleanest, also deserves attention. From Apuan in the North to Maremma in the south, via the marine park outside Pisa. Here we find both Versilia, with fashionable seaside resorts and paradisiac beaches and the far South Monte Argentario with wonderful rocks.
