Umbria

Umbria region, knowns as the green heart of Italy

Umbria has begun to allow more and more tourists to discover its beauty. While in Tuscany tourists and prices are soaring, as we glance to the East, we wonder what lies behind the green Tuscan hills. And the fact is, that the beautiful agricultural landscape also continues on the Umbrian side.

Many of us who have read the best seller “The Tuscan Sun” by Frances Mayes, and here in Cortona on the border between Tuscany and Umbria, it seems that you live the amazing pages of that book. Looking down into the Valdichiana valley is considered the most beautiful landscape in the wine sector across Italy.

Umbria has a lot of other advantages during the low season too. To come to the pilgrimage town of Assisi, one morning in November and the smell of candles in the church, with Giotto's frescoes ceiling. To regard the sparkling waterfalls of Cascata delle Marmore in the spring. Taking the boat out on Lake Trasimeno an early summer day. These are experiences that so many get stuck on in Umbria.

Many of the towns in the region have very well-preserved medieval environments as for example Spoleto, where the famous classic music festival, “Festival dei Due Mondi” (Festival of the two worlds)  is held every summer.

Also Perugia offers a high class musical experience every year in July with the “Perugia Jazz music festival” that involves big jazz stars. In this rural metropolis there is also Italy's best language university for foreign students. This has certainly put a vibrant touch to the medieval streets and created a wide selection of nightly entertainment.

In southern Umbria, we find landscapes of  different nature with high mountains and broad plateaus where you can choose between a wide range of activities as trekking, rafting, climbing and horseback riding.
