La Maddalena - the city that Napoleon wanted to conquer

Located on the island of La Maddalena on the northeastern fringes of the Saridinian Island, the city is a part of the province of Olbia-Tempio and is also the largest of the entire town in the Maddalena archipelago region.

The island is another typical summer destination with a string of beaches and a fantastic Mediterranean weather almost all throughout the year.

The first and foremost aspect that will strike you regarding La Maddalena is a feeling that the city shares with you and you automatically grow love and interest on certain historically places like some famous Mediterranean ports, and the very character of the city that is being built slowly, but surely over the centuries. However, all said and done, there is a vibe in the city that is very much Sardinian in nature and it is this feeling that will drive you more towards exploring its character that is not only a few centuries old, but which is now a very part of the Sardinian society.

The USP of the city is its beaches. The most amazing part is that all the beaches are located just on the outskirts of the city, though they can easily be reached by the circular bus service that offers the tourist trips to show the panoramic view of the city.

There are quite a few beautiful, unspoiled beaches that dot the edges of the city and its adjoining areas. Some of these beaches even offer seasonal cafe-bars, while some of them have no such facilities and are purely virgin with sand, rocks and the ever enticing sea. The two most famous beaches are Monte Rena and Spalmatore. Other attractions of the city include the old town, and the La Maddalena port.

The city is home to a number of restaurants as well as bars, which are extremely tourist-friendly and pleasant. Fast food, rather than the local cuisines are a modest alternative in this city, though there is no dearth of local cuisines that are served. They are tasty as well as cheap and serve as good lunch options. There are street side cafes that remain open during the summers along the beaches. Then there are some typical take-away eateries and food stores all throughout the city. The city also has a super market and a huge fruit market that offers all types of fruits and vegetables that are fresh and healthy.

Getting to La Maddalena is not a very difficult thing to do. There are car services in Palau, which ferry passengers to the city. This service is mainly run by three private companies – Enermar, Delcomar and Saremar.

The city is home to a number of fantastic hotels and guest houses that offer more luxury and class that you can expect. The typical Italian hospitality will make you really feel good at the end of the day, and if you are thinking about the gastronomic satisfaction, then there are the typical Sardinian cuisines that will leave you drooling. Then a wide variety of wines that are served, will also make your day.
