Salento is the extreme southeastern peninsular extension of the Apulia region, which protrudes into the Mediterranean waters, in the southeastern most tip of Italy. From the geographical point of view, it is actually a sub-peninsula of the Italian Peninsula, which, due to its shape and location, often referred to as the heel of the famous Italian ‘boot’.
