The south-west side of the Lake Garda

Where heaven meets earth

Lago Di Garda or Lake Garda, as is it commonly known all over the world, is the largest lake that Italy has. It is regarded as one of the most happening and sought after holiday retreats in the world. Located in Northern Italy, the lake attracts tourists from all over the world. The most peculiar aspect of the lake is that its shoreline is divided by Province of Verona, Province of Brescia and Province of Trento to the south-east, south-west and north respectively.

Surrounded by predominantly Gruppo del Baldo Mountains in the north that makes the norther tip of the lake narrower than the other parts, the lake offers a breathtaking view, especially with its array of small islands that add to its beauty. Of all the islands, 5 are main and the largest of them is the Isola del Garda. The other 3 main islands are Isola di Trimelone, Isola dell'Olivo, and Isola di Sogno. Three principle tributaries that merge with the lake are Sarca River, Ponale River and the Varone River, and the only outlet is formed by the Micio River.

The south of this wonderful lake is occupied by the Sirmione, the fortified town, one of the main tourist destinations of the region. The city houses the world famous Catullo Spa and Virgilio spa complexes. For the party animals there are several bars and hotels, restaurants and guest houses, old fashioned stores and a huge market – so go out and enjoy your binge and drinking sessions. The mainstay of the town is the Scaliger Castle that dates back to the 13th Century, which also houses a villa owned once by the famous Roman poet, Catullus. Besides all these remarkable historical milestones, the place is also famous for sulfur springs at the end of the peninsula, which is believed to cure various catarrhal conditions, particularly which involve ear. Do not forget to visit the Gardaland, one of the most famed theme parks in Europe.

Tourists can choose from a number of transport options for visiting the place. There are regular ferry services from the major cities and towns that are located on the western and the eastern banks of the lake, though the service is not that frequent. Then there are bus services that take people to and from the eastern coast. The buses take people from Verona to Garda at least 4 times a day. The western coast has its own bus service from Salo to Desenzano del Garda and the other way round.

Lake Garda is a shopping paradise. It houses the best brands in the world – starting from Armani to Versace and Dolce & Gabbana and the likes. Italy is the hub of the fashion world and Lake Garda does the true justice to that reputation. With weekly markets, small boutiques and designer outlets offering a wide range of latest trends of the fashion world, the place is a paradise for a true Fashionista.

With a mild climate prevailing all throughout the year, Lake Garda also comes up with the best vineyards, the scent of which will make everyone tizzy. The flowering trees and intoxicating scent of the vineyards will leave everyone mesmerized. Truly, if anyone is looking for the real scent of the holidays, it is Lake Garda that he or she should be looking for.
